Donate 15 items of food, receive a free day at Disney

Due to an overwhelming response from volunteers, Second Harvest North Florida is now making it easier for residents in the area to earn a free ticket to a Disney World theme park by asking them to drop off 15 items of food to its Jacksonville location on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In exchange for those items of food, donors will receive a free one-day pass to a Disney park. Before items can be exchanged at Second Harvest North Florida, interested donors must first register for their free ticket on Disney’s official website. A direct link to the program can be found here.

• Follow these steps to register:
  Type in your zip code in the bottom left corner of the Disney Page,
  Choose the hunger and homelessness category
  The name of the opportunity is Food for Thought and the organization is Lutheran Social Services

Once registered, donors will receive a confirmation e-mail within five days from Second Harvest North Florida. The final step is to drop off the 15 items of food at Second Harvest North Florida, which is located at 1502 Jessie Street. Click here for our location.

In the month of January, the program has helped create more than 900 meals for the agencies which Second Harvest serves in the northeast corridor of Florida.

Disney’s goal with its Give a Day Get a Day program is to encourage one million people across the United States to earn a one day theme park ticket by volunteering a day out of their year in 2010. The program will end on Dec. 15 or once the one million tickets have been distributed.
