Paula Deen made a visit to Second Harvest North Florida on Thursday, June 17, 2010, as part of an ongoing tour with Smithfield Foods and the Helping Hungry Homes program. Helping Hungry Homes is a Smithfield initiative that was launched in January 2008 to provide food to individuals and families who are considered food insecure. More than 35 million people live in households considered to be food insecure, of which 12.6 million are children. Since the launch, more than 1.8 million servings of protein have been provided to food banks across the country. The program will be donating and delivering nearly 20 million servings of protein coast to coast over the next three years. Second Harvest received more than 30,000 pounds of hams for distribution in North Florida.
