JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville community rose to the occasion during the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive on Saturday, May 12 – donating nearly 258,000 pounds of much-needed nonperishable food resources for people in need on the First Coast.
The National Association of Letter Carriers sponsors the largest one-day food drive in the United States on Mother's Day weekend each year. This year's event will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011.
The 19th Annual "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the United States, is set for Saturday, May 14. Residents are asked to leave nonperishable food donations in bags or boxes by their mailboxes.
More than 350,000 pounds of food was donated to Second Harvest North Florida through the NALC event in 2010 - the event's largest Jacksonville total ever - and the goal is to secure even more pounds in 2010.
