Don't Forget: The NALC "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive Is Saturday, May 11

Every year on the second Saturday in May, the National Association of Letter Carriers holds the nation's largest one-day food drive. This year, it will be held on May 11.

Join Us for Second Harvest Night with the Jacksonville Sharks

Tonight is Second Harvest night at Sea Best Field. Cheer on the Jacksonville Sharks as they take on the Iowa Barnstormers and support Second Harvest by making a non-perishable food donation before the game. Second Harvest staff and volunteers will be holding a food drive out front, so bring food to donate and look for the bog blue truck.

Dixie Egg Company Donates 86,400 Eggs

A huge thank you is due to Dixie Egg Company who today delivered a whopping donation of 240 cases of fresh eggs to Second Harvest North Florida's Jessie Street distribtuion center. That is a total of 86,400 eggs!

No one was as excited to see this wonderful donation as Bruce Ganger, Second Harvest's executive director.

Who will eat these 86,400 eggs?

Gleaning Citrus and Feeding the Hungry

Gleaning refers to the gathering of crops left behind after farmers are done harvesting. Crops may get left behind for several reasons. Sometimes food is left behind from a field that was mechanically harvested, or the food may not be worth the cost to the farmer due to labor cost or expected low profits from the market. However, the food that remains behind is still healthy and nutritious food that can be used. Gleaning is one of many things that Second Harvest North Florida does to help rescue food that can be used to feed those in need.

Bimbo Bakeries: An Industry Leader with a Heart for the Hungry

Join Second Harvest North Florida in recognizing a super partner: Bimbo Bakeries.  Since June, 2012, the benevolent bakers have donated more than 105,000 pounds of bread to feed the hungry men, women and children of north Florida. These delicious baked goods include English muffins, bagels, hot dog and hamburger rolls, pizza crusts, specialty and traditional sliced breads, tortillas, and rolls. When the Bimbo Bakery donation arrives at the food bank every Monday and Thursday, the large carts overflow with great products.
